Iloko Creative Writng

Iloko creative writing course takes off at DMMMSU

A new course on Iloko Creative Writing starts on July 14, 2007 at the Don Mariano Marcos State University-Open University System in the City of San Fernando, La Union.

According to University President Ernesto R. Gapasin and OUS Director Concepcion O. Bederio, the course kicks off with an opening program at 8:30 am at the OUS Function Hall. The theme of the program is “Ti Literatura Iloko: Pangrugian a Mangadal ken Mangipateg.

Award-winning Iloko writer, staunch advocate and noted Hawaii Fil-Am Observer columnist Ariel S. Agcaoili, shall be the guest of honor and speaker. The guest of honor also coordinates for the Ilokano and Philippine Drama and Film Program of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu and president of the Nakem Conferences International.

This training course is composed of six modules as follows: Introduction to Iloko Creative Writing; Learning the Basics of Iloko Grammar; How to Write an Iloko Short Story; How to Write an Iloko Poetry; How to Write an Iloko Feature and How to Develop Saribitniw.

The strategy of the course as a distance learning package is multi-mode, multi-media, modular instruction with face-to-face interaction. Enrollees will not only benefit from learning Iloko Creative Writing, but would further help develop Iloko literature's continued evolution.

The pioneering Ilokano resource persons include: Dr. Ariel S. Agcaoili, Juan S. P. Hidalgo, Jr., Edilberto H. Angco, Manuel S. Diaz and Djuna R. Alcantara. Two young blood lecturers shall join the pool of resource speakers in the later part of the course.
